General observations

Always keep a copy of the foreign license

To revise, replace or convert a license from a foreign country in Greece, it is important to have a copy or the original of the foreign driver's license. If there is no copy, you may need to contact the issuing country or the country's embassy if possible.

Which foreign licenses are recognized?

  1. Licenses from EU member states and from Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein can be used in Greece, as long as they are valid.
  2. For permits from Switzerland and Liechtenstein there are special recognition rules and time limits of stay.
  3. For licenses from Albania, Serbia, United Arab Emirates, USA, Canada, Australia, United Kingdom, Gibraltar and third countries, the case must be checked separately.
  4. The foreign passport alone is not enough to request conversion to a Greek license. An acceptable residence or identification document and VAT number are required.

Conversion of foreign license
