This procedure concerns specific cases of older motorcycle licenses and must be checked according to the issue date of your existing license. It does not apply to every motorcycle license holder.

Which cases must be checked

Gradual access after 19/1/2013 concerns older categories and upgrades from motorcycle A1 to A2 or A, depending on when the existing license was issued.

A1 up to 18/1/2011

If you obtained A1 on or before 18/1/2011, your case must be checked for possible gradual access.

A1 from 19/1/2011 to 18/1/2013

This period needs specific checking, because the details are not the same for every case.

A up to 18/1/2013

If you obtained category A on or before 18/1/2013, contact the school so we can check what applies.

Older A1 licenses

A1 licenses issued before or after 1/9/2002 need particular checking so the correct procedure can be determined.

What applies

The procedure is not the same for everyone

Contact the school and tell us which motorcycle category you hold and when it was issued.
We check whether your case falls under gradual access without exams.
If the procedure can be completed, we guide you through the next steps and required documents.
If it cannot be completed without exams, we explain which category you need and what practical training is required.

Important note

For licenses obtained after 19/1/2013, there is no gradual access without exams. For any category you want, you must follow the examination procedure and complete the required practical lessons.
